From Wegmans Food Markets:

A checkout donation program that ran from January 14 through February 7 at all of Wegmans’ 75 stores collected $1,012,321 in donations from customers and employees, all of which went to the American Red Cross International Response Fund Haiti Relief.

The program was originally planned for 10 days, but when its customers asked for more time to give, Wegmans extended it an additional 2 weeks.

“The outpouring of support we saw from customers and employees, in such a short period of time, was unprecedented,” says Linda Lovejoy, Wegmans’ community relations manager. “Our hearts have been touched by the images we’ve seen on the news or in social media, and everyone wants to help.”

Customers were able to donate any amount, and 100% of their donations would go to the fund which provides funding for sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers, and providing financial resources.

On January 14, 2010, the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation also announced a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross International Response Fund Haiti Relief.
