From The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton:
The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton will host the 92Y Live program “Joy Behar with Judy Gold” on Wednesday, April 3, at 7:30 pm at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal. Joy Behar, an Emmy awarding winning actress and comedian, will talk to Judy Gold about her life and career, as well as behind-the-scene stories from her new TV show “Joy Behar: Say Anything.” This will be a DVD showing of a program recently held at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. The cost to attend is $8 for the general public or $5 for Federation members. The doors will open at 6:45 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
Behar, one of the two original co-hosts of ABC’s "The View," along with Barbara Walters, has been called one of today’s leading comic talents. In her career, she has performed standup comedy and interviewed politicians and artists, in addition to being a leading woman on stage and screen. She hosted "The Joy Behar Show" on HLN from 2009-11. Her new show on Current TV, "Joy Behar: Say Anything," debuted in September 2012.
Armed with an M.A. in English education from SUNY at Stony Brook, Behar originally began a career in teaching. She then set out to pursue comedy professionally and immediately received bookings in New York clubs such as Caroline’s and Catch a Rising Star. She went on to win three MAC Awards and a CableACE Award. Behar headlined her own HBO special and was a regular on the series "Baby Boom." Some of her television appearances include being the voice of a neurotic patient on "Dr. Katz" (which won the CableACE Award), "Real Time with Bill Maher," "Last Comic Standing," "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." In 2011, she served as a judge for the 90th annual "Miss America Pageant."
For three years, Behar hosted a call-in radio show on WABC, where she discussed politics with a deadly humorous bent. Her film appearances include “Hall Pass,” directed by the Farrelly Brothers; “Cookie,” with Peter Falk; “This Is My Life,” directed by Nora Ephron; Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery”; and a cameo in Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail.” In the theater, she had a successful run in the off-Broadway hit “The Food Chain,” earning “rave reviews” in the starring role, and also in the critically-acclaimed “The Vagina Monologues.”
Gold, an Emmy Award winning actress and comedian, is best known as the star of her two critically acclaimed long-running Off-Broadway hit shows. Her most recent show, “The Judy Show – My Life As A Sitcom” recently completed a six month run at The D-R-2 Theatre in New York. Gold was nominated for the 2006 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for her previous show, “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother.” In addition, the show won the 2007 GLAAD award for "Outstanding New York Theater."
Gold hosts a monthly radio show on Sirus/XM called "Hatched By Two Chicks." She is also the host of the Funny People series at 92nd Street Y and a frequent contributor to "The Moth." She recently appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," "The Dr. Oz Show" and "The Wendy Williams Show," and starred in recent episodes of "The Glades" on A&E and “Are We There Yet?” on TBS. She has also appeared on "Ugly Betty," "Law & Order," "Law & Order SVU," "Hollywood Squares," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "The Conan O'Brien Show."
Gold was the host of HBO's "At the Multiplex with Judy Gold" from 1999-2009, in addition to hosting Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time" and the "GLAAD MEDIA AWARDS," which aired on LOGO and VH1. Her TV specials include a half-hour comedy special for LOGO; she was also featured in the HBO documentary "All Aboard." Her stand-up specials include "Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold," "Comedy Central's Tough Crowd Stands Up" and her HBO half-hour special, which received a Cable Ace Award. Gold was seen in the hit film “The Aristocrats” and the documentaries “Making Trouble” and “I am Comic.”
Gold won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." She was nominated twice for The American Comedy Award's funniest female stand-up. She has written for Wondertime Magazine, Momlogic.com and The Advocate. She is also an instructor at ESPA Primary Stages where she teaches solo performance.
The 92nd Street Y was founded in 1874 as the Young Men's Hebrew Association and now offers programs of interest to all, regardless of sex, religion, race, ethnicity, economic class or age. Although located in New York City, its broadcasts allow it to extend the reach of its programs. These include lectures on a variety of topics as well as concerts, literary readings and dance performances.
