Binghamton Ranked Nation’s Top Real Estate Market for 3rd Consecutive Year



BINGHAMTON, NY – Mayor Matt Ryan today announced that Binghamton has been ranked one of the nation’s top-five real estate markets for the third consecutive year.



“My administration has worked hard to put Binghamton on the path to prosperity, and this ranking shows we’re continuing to move in the right direction,” said Mayor Ryan. “While the national recession may have slowed our progress, there’s no doubt our comprehensive, focused approach to community development has put us on the front edge of municipalities in our region and nationwide.”



Earlier this month, Business Week listed Binghamton as the 4th strongest market based on the following criteria:



· Share of homes with increasing values: 53.61%

· Median value: $112,300

· Annual change: 4.45%

· Quarterly change: 1.54%



The magazine also highlighted the area’s other assets and attractions, including Binghamton University, the Binghamton Mets, and outdoors activities such as hiking and fishing.



Last year, NBC’s Today Show ranked Binghamton as the nation's top market for “making money and quality of life.” In 2007, Forbes.com also ranked Binghamton #2 in its report on the country’s ten top housing markets, recognizing Mayor Matt Ryan’s Restore NY initiatives as a key to strengthening the local market.



In June, the Mayor Ryan’s Restore NY Program won first place for Public Administration & Management in the New York Conference of Mayors annual Local Government Achievement Awards, marking the first time any municipality had won the prize two years in a row. The City received the same award for the Mayor’s Blight Prevention Initiative in 2008.
