From BU:
The Binghamton University Wind Symphony, directed by Daniel Fabricius, will present “La Mer” on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall at Binghamton University. The Wind Symphony will perform music depicting various aspects of "the sea", from Ralph Vaughan Williams traditional British march, Sea Songs to Brian Balmages' Gravity Wave, a composition inspired by a natural phenomenon in which clouds move in a similar visual pattern as waves in the ocean. The concert will conclude with W. Francis McBeth's work, Of Sailors and Whales, a five-movement suite based on scenes from Herman Melville's Moby Dick.
Daniel Fabricius is highly regarded in the region as a conductor, as a percussion performer, and as a music educator. Fabricius has been a member of the music faculty at Binghamton University since 1992, serving as percussion instructor for twenty years before his new appointment as conductor of the Binghamton University Wind Symphony. He holds degrees from Mansfield University and Ithaca College. In addition to his duties at BU, he has also served at Ithaca College and he is the Director of Bands at Owego Free Academy where he has developed one of the finest instrumental music programs in New York State. He has been a member of the Binghamton Philharmonic percussion section since 1982 and he has presented many clinics at music conventions and conferences and often serves as a guest conductor for honor band festivals.
Tickets for the concert are $6 general public, $3 faculty/staff/seniors and free for students. Tickets are available at the Anderson Center Box Office from noon to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, by calling (607) 777-ARTS, online at
