Chemung Canal Trust Company announces FREE shredding events in Vestal and Owego

In an attempt to help individuals reduce their exposure to identity theft, Chemung Canal Trust Company, in conjunction with Rogers Service Group, television partners WIVT and WBGH and radio partners WCDW & WRRQ, will host “free” shredding events the next two Saturdays, November 7th and 14th.

On Saturday, November 7th, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., CCTC employees and representatives from Rogers Service Group will be located, at Chemung Canal’s Vestal office, located in the Weis Plaza at 100 Rano Blvd. in Vestal.

The following Saturday, November 14th, the event will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. at Chemung Canal’s Route 17C branch office in Owego, next to the Treadway Inn.

According to Ronald E. Allison, CCTC Vice President of Community Relations, “for two hours each of these Saturdays representatives from Chemung Canal Trust Company and the Rogers Services Group will assist the general public by shredding confidential documents and records.” There is no charge for the service, which is open to individuals but not businesses.

“Properly disposing of important papers, statements and documents is one of the easiest ways to help prevent both fraud and identity theft,” Allison said, “this is our fourth consecutive year offering this service, but our first time providing the service to the residents of Broome & Tioga counties. We expect this year’s effort to be as successful, if not more, than in the other counties.”

Allison indicated that Rogers’ mobile shredding tractor trailer would be stationed within the parking lot to allow the public easy access to drive in and drop off the materials and documents they would like to have shredded.
