DSINSTNY Buddy Walk

WHAT: 2009 Buddy Walk sponsored by the Down Syndrome Information Network Southern Tier of NY (DSINSTNY)

WHEN: Saturday, September 19, 2009. Registration begins at 11:00am, opening ceremonies will begin at 12pm and the walk kicks-off at 12.30pm.

WHERE: Ross Park Zoo, 185 Park Avenue, Binghamton. There will be two routes to walk – one will take walkers around the ground level zoo, and the other will take walkers throughout the entire zoo.

WHY: Binghamton’s Buddy Walk is one of over 200 Buddy Walks planned in cities across the country this fall. The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to promote acceptance and inclusion of all people with Down Syndrome.

WHO: Everyone is welcome. About 500 people are expected to attend.

In addition to the walk, the day’s events include: entertainment, including special guests, Flame, food, Binghamton Mets and Binghamton Senators mascots, juggling, story telling, carousel rides, basket raffles, and much more.

The registration fee is $5 and includes entrance into the Ross Park Zoo and an event t-shirt.

BACKGROUND: All funds raised through the Buddy Walk support both local and national programs to provide education, research, advocacy initiatives and local programs and services. The Buddy Walk is brought to this community by the Down Syndrome Information Network Southern Tier of NY with support from the Ross Park Zoo, R. V. Swinamer Associates, Endicott Precision Inc., Hatala Orthodontics PC, National Pipe & Plastics Inc., Time Warner, FOX 40, STAR 105.7 and 92.5 KGB, and Times Shamrock Weekly Group.
