From Broome County Health Department:

The Broome County Older Drivers Network and the New York State Older Driver and Pedestrian Safety Project will be hosting a FREE Senior Drive, a Driving Wellness Checklist© Training on Tuesday, April 9th, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Senior Drive is a program that promotes early driving intervention with older drivers before a traffic safety crisis occurs by using a simple checklist. A driver’s age does not determine if he or she can drive safely. Safe driving is determined by how a driver functions on the road.

Trained technicians are the reason why Senior Drive works. They have established working relationships with the older driver population and are important resources for older drivers looking for support and recommendations about safe driving and their vehicle. Instructor Rory Fluman of the Capital Region Older Driver Assistance Network will help class participants become familiar with the checklist process and learn about specific health conditions that can affect safe driving. Upon completion of the training, class participants will have the skills and knowledge to participate in and/or facilitate future Senior Drive events.

The training will be held at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, 155 Lt. Van Winkle Drive in Classroom 1. A portion of the training will be conducted outdoors so class participants should dress accordingly. Light refreshment will be provided. Please register for the training by Friday, April 5th, by phone to Christine Muss at the Broome County Health Department at (607) 778-2807 or by email at cmuss@co.broome.ny.us.
