The overall fundraising of all the teams inworld and on Convio (online donation site) raised nearly US$220,000 in twenty countries worldwide. 1579 Avatars walked 2,676 laps for 139 teams. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Leveraging its strong expertise in medical software integration and health care knowledge, STHL also won two awards during the weekend event. STHL finished tied for second for the “Most Inventive Campsite Fundraising Award,” and tied for third for the “Best Theme Decorated Campsite Award” out of the 139 teams participating.

Southern Tier HealthLink’s camp site built upon its expertise as the region’s health information organization, featuring a Personal Health Record (PHR) where patients could create their own PHR including age, height and weight, blood pressure, medical and drug history, and any current ailments. As they visited various health provider locations, patients could understand how their information assisted in knowledgeable treatment.

The Campsite also launched Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness challenges featuring tips, video education and quizzes for points redeemable for prizes including the launch of the Blausen library of over 250 patient educational videos.

“We are pleased to have raised over $1,500 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life program” commented STHL Executive Director Christina Galanis. “The awards we received reflect the hard work and passion our team brought to this important event.”

Southern Tier HealthLink was established with leadership and support from the United Health Services, Lourdes Hospital and other stakeholders in 2005. STHL is a non-profit organization designed as a partnership which brings together healthcare providers and consumers in Central New York to “connect the dots” with technology that will improve health care quality, access and safety while reducing costs.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
