Strawberry Festival 5K Run/Walk Sanctioned by USA Track & Field

The 2nd Annual Owego Strawberry Festival's 5K Run/Walk will kick off this year's festival and will be held

Friday, June 14, 2013, beginning at 7:00 pm. This year, we are pleased that the event has been sanctioned by the USA Track & Field Association. What is a sanction? A USATF Sanction is an official designation issued by USATF, through the Niagara Association, which approves and licenses the holding of a competitive track & field, long distance running or race walking event in the United States. The Sanction is also a contract, which evidences the event's commitment to follow national and international rules and regulations of the sport and to provide a safe environment for the participants and spectators. A sanction tells athletes that this event is being run according to applicable competition rules and provides some insurance coverage for runners and volunteers.

Registrations are now being accepted to participate in this year's "Strawberry Shake" 5K Run/Walk. The entry fee is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids' One Mile Race. The race will begin on Academy Street, near the Tioga County Office Building, 56 Main Street, Owego. Each pre-registered runner will be offered a free t-shirt, lots of water before, during and after the race, Chobani yogurt (while supplies last), fruit, popsicles, coupons for a free McDonald's strawberry shake, and more!

All proceeds will benefit the Owego Strawberry Festival, the Owego-Apalachin Athletic Boosters Club and future event activities in the Village of Owego.
