Binghamton, N.Y. 2 November 2009 – The Association for Vision Rehabilitation and Employment, Inc. (A.V.R.E.) will be hosting a Touchable Art! Show on November 6th from 5pm-9pm and November 7th from 10am-4pm. The show is sponsored by the Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST) and funded by a grant from the New York State and Chenango County Councils on the Arts. The show will display art work from a wide variety of artists and mediums. Featured exhibits include pieces created by visually impaired students as part of the Magic Paintbrush Project in Johnson City, as well as a collection of 3-dimensional, textured sea and landscapes by Don Williams of Hornell.

The purpose of Touchable Art! is to present to the general public another way to appreciate art – through touch – and to encourage sighted and visually impaired artists to create art that can be appreciated through touch. The exhibit will run through November 19th. In addition to the opening dates and hours, the exhibit can be viewed during A.V.R.E.’s regular business hours – Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Large groups can view the exhibit by appointment. For more information, contact Jenn Cubic at 607-724-2428.
