From the Greater Delhi Area Chamber of Commerce:
The third annual Delhi St. Patrick's Day Parade, presented by the Greater Delhi Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Saturday, March 23 at noon on Main Street in Delhi. The parade will follow a route from Clinton Street to Bridge Street.
Organizers say the follow-up to last year's highly successful parade will feature the return of the Schenectady Pipe Band and the Leatherstocking District Pipe Band (formerly the Hobart Fire Department Pipes and Drums), with the addition of the Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band from Binghamton. Other bands have been invited, but not confirmed. Pipe bands will perform on the Courthouse Square after the parade, weather permitting.
The Delhi Fire Department and other departments from around Delaware County will be there with marchers and fire trucks. Students from SUNY Delhi will participate, both marching in the parade and helping to build a number of floats that will represent Delhi-area community groups and businesses.
The “Roaming Railroad,” a mini railroad train sponsored by SUNY Delhi, will participate in the parade and offer free rides around the courthouse square afterward.
Area civic organizations, clubs and other groups are invited to participate. Those interested should contact Tabitha Byam at 607-746-8595. Trophies will be awarded to parade units in several categories.
Local businesses are encouraged to hold events connected to the parade. Ray’s Fine Wines & Spirits will have an Irish whiskey tasting on parade day. Adult parade goers are invited to visit the store at 70 Main Street to enjoy many of Ireland’s whiskeys. O'Neill's Shire Pub will feature live Irish music after the parade. The Quarter Moon Cafe will host a fundraiser for the new village pool following the parade. Thanks to a donation from Brewery Ommegang, 100 percent of the money from beer sales will go to the pool fund.
The parade is sponsored by the Greater Delaware County Chamber of Commerce with major support from Delaware County Economic Development, The Delaware national Bank of Delhi, the Catskill Ladies Assosiation to Support and Inspire (CLASI) and local businesses.
