The Montrose Restoration Committee will hold an Open House tonight at the Montrose Theatre to celebrate the installation of the theatre’s new digital equipment and surround sound. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a showing of Out Of Africa. Tickets are available at Andres True Value, Butler’s Pantry, Chocolates by Leopold, the Montrose Theatre and the MRC office. The cost is $25 per person, $45 per couple. The Adult/Teen Department at the JCC is offering the New York State Defensive Driving course today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m (with 1-hour lunch break). This 6-hour class helps community members with safety information, as well as can save money them money on their car insurance. The Apalachin Lions Club 26th Annual Scholarship program will award $1500 in scholarships to deserving students from the class of 2013 who live in  Apalachin, Campville east to the Broome County line, and Little Meadows, PA. The scholarships are awarded to students who have made outstanding contributions in service to their community and school. Come to the Cayuga Nature Center today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to witness how sap becomes sweet maple syrup! This annual event starts with a delicious pancake feast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days and helps showcase the taste of maple syrup by pouring it on pancakes, sausage, and apple crisp. Once you are full, work off your meal between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. by checking out the rotating live music, local vendors with homemade goods, hikes and syrup demonstrations along the Sugarbush Trail! Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children (3-12) and $35 for a family of 5. Member admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children (3-12), and $25 for a family of 5. Children under age 2: FREE! All proceeds benefit the Cayuga Nature Center’s mission and programming.
