The single most important thing you can do to help your car's engine perform better is getting a tune-up. A good tune-up should consist of the following four steps: 1) The cylinder compression should be checked to determine whether a mechanical problem exists. 2) Check the ignition system, the carburetion, and the pollution systems against the specifications of the manufacturer. 3) The engine idle speed, ignition timing, vacuum, mechanical advance, points dwell, plugs, condenser, distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil, spark plug wires, and P-C-V should be checked with engine testing equipment. 4) All filters need to be looked at. If they are dirty, the engine could be damaged. Be sure to check with your mechanic or refer to your owner's manual for usual tune-up intervals.
