Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendons, which are the tissues that connect muscles to bones. It can occur in any place where a tendon is located, but it is most common at the shoulders or heels, on the outside of the elbows, called tennis elbow, or on the inside of the elbows, called golfer's elbow. To help prevent Achilles (ack-kill-lees) tendinitis, warm-up before exercising by stretching and wear shoes that are well-cushioned. Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow are caused by any repetitive motion of the elbow. Applying an ice pack will help stop the internal bleeding and reduce the swelling. If the pain persists, your doctor may prescribe medication. Physical therapy may also be helpful in speeding up the healing process and returning the tendon to a healthy, injury resistant state.
