Disinfecting your pool to provide continued enjoyment can be a daunting chore. Chemicals available for this task vary in their use and results. Bromine, like chlorine, is a member of the halogen chemical family . This means that it's very effective in controlling bacteria, viruses and algae in pool water. Bromine is not an oxidizing agent meaning, that the pool will need a shock treatment to eliminates the inorganic and organic pollutants brought in by swimmers. The convenient method of dosing your pool or spa uses a tablet consisting of organic compounds and hypochlorous acid. As the tablet dissolves, the bromine sanitizes your water. Hypochlorous acid, or free chlorine, functions to reactivate used bromine and continue sanitizing. The best method of dosage is by using a circulatory feeder. Bromine isn't strong enough when it comes to ultra violet rays and it can break down rapidly, making it costly for outdoor use. Bromine's slight odor and slow disolving two part system make it more suitable for spa and indoor pool sanitizing. Your local pool supplier can help determine if bromine is the right choice for your pool. Hypochlorous - (hypo-chlor-ous)
