Electric heating and air conditioning systems are complex devices, that usually require professional repair. However, there are some steps you can take, before calling an electrician. When air flow gets weaker and weaker, it could be a dirty filter. Cleaning or replacing the air filter is simple, and will help your system operate more efficiently. If you feel a large temperature difference from one room to the next, try adjusting the registers. Completely open all registers in rooms furthest from the unit, and adjust the registers in rooms nearest the unit so that they're almost closed. If the system suddenly goes out, check the breaker. If it's been thrown, turn off any extra devices, and flip the breaker back on. If it won't stay on, this could be a warning that the system is overloading, or the breaker itself is bad. Either way, it's probably a job for the electrician. Finally, when turning on a brand new heater, you may notice smoking and a hot smell, as it burns off the factory coating. This should stop after a few minutes. If not, turn it off, and call an electrician.
