Small game hunting is one of the most popular sports in North America. Small game includes birds and waterfowl such as ducks, geese, and quail; squirrels; rabbits and hares; and other small animals not classified as big game. The type of firearm used varies with the type of game. Shotguns are used mostly with game birds and waterfowl. Small powered rifles are used for rabbits and squirrels, although small gauge shotguns may also be used. Whichever type of firearm you use, make sure you are properly trained in the use and care of it. Also, practice your shooting. Vary the distance and situation to simulate the small game hunt as closely as possible. Regulations on seasons, limits, and hunting methods for small game are established by state and local governments and game wardens. Make sure you know the regulations and have the proper permits before heading out. For more information on hunting small game, contact a sporting goods or hunting store in your area.
