Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan's slim lead over Republican challenger Rich David has gotten slimmer.
Following the board of election's re-canvassing of voting machines from Tuesday, Ryan's lead is down 5 votes to 56.
There are currently 524 absentee ballots that have been returned.
Ryan says he believes he may have an edge.
Mayor Matt Ryan says, "The first 519, there were 60 more Democratic absentee ballots than there were Republican returned. There were 263 Democrats and 203 Republicans. So, that gives me some assurances that we are looking pretty good."
The absentee ballots will be opened next Thursday.
Due to the close margin, the machine tally will be confirmed with a hand count of paper ballots on Tuesday.
The Johnson City dissolution referendum and races for JC trustee and Vestal Town Board are also subject to absentee results.
