It has been fifteen years since the genocide of Kurdish civilians in Iraq.

The American Kurdish Council held a remembrance ceremony at Binghamton University recently for the people who were killed. In March of 1988 Saddam Hussein's regime murdered five-thousand Kurdish civilians and injured thousands more by using poisonous gas. Jumaa Barany survived the attacks. He spoke at the ceremony. He now lives in the Binghamton area.

Jumaa Barany says "I lost my family, my brother, my father, my cousins and I escaped to Turkish border at the time. In my village we lost friends and family of about seventy-three people from there."

Barany was one of only four male survivors in his village.
