New York State Comptroller, Tom DiNapoli, has released a scathing audit of Maine-Endwell Central School District's auditing practices.
DiNapoli says the district underestimated its fund balance by 6 point 7 million dollars, money that could have been used to lower taxes.
The audit also found the district paid 37 thousand dollars in health insurance premiums for two retirees who were dead.
In response, ME says that it has made changes to its accounting practices, but it disagrees with the Comptroller about how much money it should reserve for tough financial times.
