Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of downtown Binghamton Saturday for the biggest parade of the year, the Saint Patrick's Day Parade, sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
At the House of Reardon on the city's Eastside, preparations are underway for the large crowds before and after the parade. Each year on Parade Day, Reardon sells over 500 ham and cabbage dinners. Today, volunteers were cutting and peeling 300 pounds of cabbage, 300 pounds of potatoes and 100 pounds of carrots to go with 500 pounds of ham and 100 loaves of bread.
Bob Norris says, "It brings on the turn of the season for us. As soon as we get to Parade Day, we know that winter's behind us. Softball season will be starting. Everybody will start to be coming out again and you'll start to see a lot of activity."
House of Reardon opens at 11 Saturday. You can order takeout by calling 722-9674. Just pull up in your car and honk the horn and they'll bring it out to you.
