Southern Tier Native Tapped for Diocesan Director Position



Syracuse, New York-- Joseph G. Slavik, the current Area Director of Catholic Charities of Broome County has been appointed Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities and Community Services, effective January 4, 2010. Mr. Slavik will be succeeding Cindy Falise who has successfully served as the Interim Diocesan Director since 2006.



Mr. Slavik is a resident of Johnson City, New York and has been the Area Director of Broome County Catholic Charities since 1980. Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director of the Catholic Youth Organization in Broome County for five years. Mr. Slavik has twenty nine years of service and experience in the overall leadership and management of the area’s largest social service agency. As Area Director, he currently oversees an operational budget of $18million annually with 400 employees and 75 volunteers. Mr. Slavik has been and continues to be a contributing board member to many agencies including Fidelis Care of NY, Upstate Medical Physicians, Broome County Department of Social Services, Christopher Community Housing Corporation and more.



As the Diocesan Director, Mr. Slavik will be responsible for leading, directing, interacting and overseeing six regional offices of Catholic Charities; the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Catholic Relief Services; and the ministries of Respect Life and Social Action. He will serve as the President of Syracuse Catholic Charities, Inc. and report directly to Bishop Robert J. Cunningham.
