The Logical Simplicity of Single Payer Healthcare

The costs of Healthcare to the budgets of local municipalities and the simplicity of a Single Payer System of paying for it will be the subject of a gathering at SPOOL.mfg a local art space in Johnson City on Saturday November 7th. Sponsored jointly by retired BU Art Professor, Don DeMauro, and Single Payer New York and endorsed by the Physicians for a National Health Plan this meeting will feature appearances by well known local elected officials, artists and artisans, as well as doctors, nurses, educators and other medical care providers.

Local citizens affected adversely by the current healthcare system will tell their personal stories. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Andrew Coates, a practicing physician who also teaches at Albany Medical College and is a long time advocate for a Single Payer Plan. Dr. Coates will speak specifically to the political aspects of passing healthcare reform in the U.S. Congress and about the growing level of resistance and activism across the country. He will simplify the understanding of the current proposals up for vote in congress.

This event is free and is open to the public. The SPOOL building is at 138 Baldwin St. in Johnson City, just south of Wilson Hospital. Parking is available across the street and up, in the Wilson Hospital parking lot next to the RR tracks.
