A new family room is bringing together 2 local organizations that provide healing environments.
A Room to Heal has created a space called The Healing Hangout inside the Danielle House in Binghamton. The House is a place for relatives to stay while their loved ones are undergoing medical treatments in our area. Volunteers spent the last several days renovating the room with paint, carpet, decorations, a flat screen TV, Playstation 2 and children's nook before revealing it to Danielle House founder Diane Stento Thursday.
Stento says the room will give children their own place to relax and be kids. "It's taken over this whole area as a brand new healing space for our guests. And I see it, the whole thing was to make it more children friendly, but this is family friendly. This is something that mom and dad could just relax with their children and play games."
Laura Sehn says, "We wouldn't be able to do it without help from the community and everyone who's donated, given time, and volunteered. So it's been great."
A Room to Heal received help from a variety of folks on the project. The interior design is by Judy Robilotti. Bill Abernathy built the nook and Nick Rollo did the painting. Rudy Paoletii provided the carpeting and Coral Isle donated a portion of the air hockey table. And SEFCU gave $5,000 to make it all possible. For more information on both organizations, visit
