The City of Binghamton has received a grant to help people fund upgrades to their properties along portions of Chenango and State streets.

The Binghamton Local Development Corporation secured $250,000 for the effort that is designed to enhance the appearance of the areas. In order to be eligible for the program, people must own property along Chenango Street from Court to Henry streets. And, on State Street from Henry to Lewis streets. Owners do have to match any funds they receive. The money can be used to do a variety of things, including façade improvements and build-outs.

The City's Economic Development Director, Merry Harris, says there has been a lot of interest in the competition. There will be a workshop on Thursday where more details will be given out. Harris says, "If people have property in that area they can come and find out more about the program, pick up the guidelines and applications. We'll also have some added benefits. We'll our historic planner there to talk about the use of historic tax credits."

There will also be a representative from Empire State Development and an energy efficiency expert at the session.
