March is National Nutrition Month and local dieticians are getting out the word on how to eat healthy.

Alexa Schmidt is a member of the Southern Tier Dietetic Association working with Sodexo at Binghamton University. She has one simple nutrition tip: eat balanced. Schmidt says that everyone should eat three to four balanced meals a day. That means including multiple food groups not only in meals but in snacks as well, to make sure you stay healthy and energetic.

Alexa Schmidt says "I do think sometimes that we just want to grab a 100 calorie pack or a bar that's quick and easy, and those things can certainly fit in, everything in moderation, but if you balance out the carbohydrates, protein, and fat, it will give you that more sustained energy that you need throughout the day."

Schmidt also stressed the importance of eating a good breakfast. She says, when in comes to improving your metabolism, fuel early, fuel often.
