Chenango Commerce is offering up some much needed help for local dairy farmers.
A revolving loan fund has been created with the aim of assisting dairy farmers by providing them with low cost financing. The money would help farmers expand their workforce, equipment, and livestock in order to keep up with the growing demand for milk. Chobani is one of the local companies that previously took part in this loan and has since paid it back, allowing for more money to be available to loan to others.
Jennifer Tavares, the Director of Economic Development, says this money has a lot of potential to help farmers. "For expansion, for retention of dairy farms, for transitions of farms to children, to people who would like to come in and purchase a dairy farm that's for sale in Chenango County, we want to help sustain and revitalize the dairy industry in Chenango County."
