Award winning poet and children's book author Darren Sardelli spoke to students and teachers at Clayton Avenue Elementary on Wednesday.
Students at Clayton Avenue Elementary in Vestal got a visit from an author today who readily admits he hated writing when he was their age. Poet and children's book author Darren Sardelli of Long Island read some of his work and gave the kids a bit of advice. He says he only discovered how fun writing could be when he read Doctor Seuss and Shel Silverstein at age 19.
Sardelli says poetry is a great way to express your feelings and dreams. "Just do what you love, focus on your passions, you know. It doesn't matter what anyone tells you and if they say you're a bad singer but you know you're a great singer, you know what, just keep doing it. I think everyone should do what makes them happy. It's not about money its really about happiness and doing what you love in life."
Sardelli has written one book, "Galaxy Pizza and Meteor Pie" and his poetry has been included in numerous anthologies. His appearance was sponsored by the Clayton Avenue PTO.
