The first ever Binghamton schools Eastside Super Strings Concert was held on Tuesday.
Students from Calvin Coolidge, East Middle, Ben Franklin, MacArthur and Theodore Roosevelt participated. They performed for shoppers and walkers at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.
Laura Hine is the orchestra teacher at the middle school. She says the 5th through 8th graders worked hard to prepare for the big event. "This is our first year doing this. We did this because we have so many great students on the east side and sometimes they don't always get the recognition they deserve. We thought this would be a fun way for them to get together, play some music and get some of the recognition they deserve."
Wednesday night at the Oakdale near the inside entrance of JC Penney, bands from Binghamton's West Middle School will perform. Music begins at 5:15 pm and goes until about 8:00.
