A Chenango Forks Fire Chief is accused of using a vehicle that he wasn't entitled to.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office says fifty-seven year-old Lewis Merritt falsified paperwork to get a vehicle for personal use that had been donated to the fire company by a downstate fireman's fund. Merritt is charged with felony Offering a False Instrument for filing.
And, misdemeanor Official Misconduct. Police say the Department of Motor Vehicles helped with their investigation. Merritt was ordered to reappear in court at a later date.
