Good Shepherd Village in Endwell hosted an open house for its assisted living program.
The Health Center at Good Shepherd has received designation as an enhanced assisted living facility. That means it can take care of people who need a lot of help and who usually wouldn't be able to stay in other assisted living facilities or adult homes. Good Shepherd has 32 assisted living apartments that include a living room, tea kitchen, bedroom and a handicapped accessible bathroom. There are also call bells in the units so residents can request a nurse when they need help.
Anne Dooley says, "I don't think that anywhere close by that assisted living offers more of a studio apartment type atmosphere, which really takes you away from the more sterile facility type that we had all provided in the past. This is a much grander level of care."
