Students at Binghamton's West Middle School have made hoops for smiles.
This month's community service focus at the school is for Smile Train, which is an organization that corrects cleft lip and palate deformities in children around the world. Students at the school worked to raise about $3,200 for the effort. They sold tee-shirts, bracelets and pizza. Some area companies donated items for a raffle last week. And, California Grill hosted a walk-a-thon while Buckridge Bluestone hosted the hoops event. Buckridge donated a dollar for every basket students made.
Lisa Adams says, "The overall message is share some love and give a smile. We believe that with our efforts that we're able to change the world one smile at a time."
It costs only $250 to perform corrective surgery. For more information on the organization log onto
