The Irish Flag was raised in Johnson City Friday morning.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Mayor Greg Deemie and other members of the Irish community gathered near the corner of Reynolds Road and Harry L Drive. Mark and Maureen Kadlecik were grand marshals in this year's parade in Binghamton.
Maureen says it's important to recognize her heritage and the patron saint of Ireland. "The significance is that it's honoring Saint Patrick. It's honoring our homeland, Ireland. And, it also bring forth the community and spirit of Saint Patrick."
Saint Patrick's Day was established in the early 17th century and celebrates Christianity's arrival in Ireland.
