The Joint Landowners Coalition of New York will be filing a lawsuit against the state.
The organization is fed up with New York not allowing hydrofracking to move forward. The state missed this month's deadline of adopting fracking regulations. JLCNY attorney Scott Kurkoski says coalition members are being notified about the pending suit. And, the names of plaintiffs are being collected.
Scott Kurkoski says, "The purpose of the lawsuit is to show that we have been denied all economic benefit to our property. That's why we've listed the candidates that we would have. So for instance, if you're a landowner who purchased property in 2007 and just purchased the subsurface minerals, what else can you do but develop it for oil and gas purposes?"
The landowners will be seeking monetary compensation from the state. The suit is expected to be filed in a few weeks.
