A woman who ran an animal rescue organization out of her home in Kirkwood has been arrested for animal cruelty.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office says 49 year-old Lisa Mistretta operated the Humane Enforcement and Animal Rescue Team or HEART, Incorporated at 139 Burts Road. Police say the conditions at the property were unsafe for the animals, causing many of them to become sick and suffer. Volunteers from Humane Societies in Georgia and Broome County assisted in removing numerous cats, dogs, and other animals.
