Wednesday was National Registered Dietician's Day, and local health experts were looking to make a positive difference in your diet.
The Southern Tier Dietetic Association helping to promote the Sodexo Health Fair next Monday at Binghamton University. Registered Dietician Monique DeKleermaeker's says she doesn't like the word diet. She says it's okay to eat almost anything, as long as your meals are balanced. The theme of this year's National Nutrition Month is Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.
Monique DeKleermaeker says, "There is no cookie-cutter approach to nutrition. We take into account people's lifestyles, people's ethnic backgrounds, their religious views towards food, and just their likes and dislikes. And within that, we try to figure out a balance, within those different parameters. So I think our goal really is to just encourage healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, healthy activities."
DeKleermaeker says a balanced meal is half vegetables and fruits and half grains and protein. Binghamton University's health fair will take place Monday in the Events Center from 3 to 6. Another will be held at Lourdes Hospital next Friday from 8 am until 2 pm.
