The new owners of Greek Peak Mountain Resort introduced themselves to the staff and many season ticket holders Friday.

Marc Stemerman and John Meier own separate manufacturing companies in Elmira. Yesterday, a bankruptcy court judge approved the sale for $6.7 million. The two men beat out 3 other bidders at an auction on Tuesday. Stemerman and Meier are friends whose families have skied together for years at Greek Peak. They say that now that the resort has a world-class hotel and waterpark in Hope Lake Lodge, they want to focus their attention on improving the ski slopes.

Marc Stemerman says, "It's going to take time but be clear that this side of the mountain is going to improve. And this is where the changes are going to happen from here on out."

Those upgrades might include faster lifts and a quadruple chair. The new owners don't have experience running a ski resort, so they plan to retain the former ownership, the Kryger family, to help manage the operation. And they intend to keep the roughly 1,000 people working there employed. Stemerman and Meier say they also want feedback from the customers.

John Meier says, "Greek Peak is not us. It's you. You're the customer. It's your mountain. Marc and I want to seek you out and have you seek us out. And we want to hear your thoughts on how we can make this asset better in the years ahead."

Their first order of business was to lower the early bird rate for next year's season pass to 299 dollars with discounts for each additional family member. The deal is scheduled to officially close on April 19th.
