United Methodist Homes says it spends $49.5 million each year on payroll. Its 583 Broome County employees are split between the Hilltop Campus in Johnson City and the Elizabeth Church Campus in Dickinson. United Methodist Homes CEO Keith Chadwick says decisions made in Albany have a direct impact on the financial status of adult care facilities. "I do hope that the elected leadership realizes that its not just dollars. Those dollars do translate into jobs. They translate into care and services at the vulnerable elderly that we serve."
The report shows the statewide financial impact of adult care to be $29 billion annually. Nursing homes and other senior facilities in the Southern Tier contribute $632 million to the local economy and support 7,200 jobs.
