2nd grade students at Vestal's Clayton Avenue Elementary School have a fun way to keep track of their healthy eating and exercise.
Excellus Blue Cross - Blue Shield and a company called An Apple A Day sponsored a nutrition tracker giveaway. Columns on the tracker allow a child to see the different food groups they're eating from each day. There's also information on the tracker about serving sizes. It's aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 8.
Lisa Johnson says, "The child starts the day with all of the doors open and their goal is to close all of the doors by the end of the day so as they eat a serving they snap the door shut. The tool is visual and tactile which are two of the primary ways that children learn."
You can also buy the nutrition tracker at
anappleaday.com. They cost $30 apiece. Although one tracker can be used for two children.
