A benefit honoring fallen Owego firefighter Matt Porcari will feature country music this weekend.
Porcari was a volunteer fireman who died battling a blaze in Newark Valley back in January. The event will raise money toward building a state-of-the-art emergency services training center. Money raised will not go to a fund established to assist Porcari's children. However, organizers say the training facility, and especially its planned live-burn building, was a project that Porcari strongly supported. The fundraiser takes place Sunday at the O-A Middle School starting at 2:30 with a chicken barbeque. At 4, Paul Cummings, a country music artist and Rochester area firefighter, will perform. Tickets are 10 dollars.
