The ribbon has finally been cut on Owego's river walk.
It's been years in the coming.
In addition to beautifying the area along the Susquehanna River and giving people a place to walk, the project shores up eroding river bank where the waste-water line is.
Congressman Maurice Hinchey had the honors of cutting the ribbon.
Only appropriate since he helped secure about 2-million dollars of federal funds which paid for nearly the entire project.
Hinchey says, " This project is something that I've been excited about from the beginning. When I first came here as a representative there were people who talked about a walkway along the river here. And, I was able to get some money as a member of the appropriations committee after I had been there for a while and to accumulate this funding over the course of a couple of years."
State Senator Tom Libous also secured about 200-thousand dollars for the 12-hundred foot river walk.
