Can you hear the bagpipes yet?
The 47th Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade will take place this Saturday in downtown Binghamton. Mayor Matt Ryan and the Hibernian Parade Committee offered a preview today of what to expect. Because of the newly constructed roundabout, flat bed trucks pulling floats will not be allowed in the parade. The parade will also only be an hour and a half this year instead of 2 hours.
Chairman of the Parade Committee, Tom Kelly, says that numerous bagpipe bands request to come to Binghamton every year because of their desire to participate in such a large and festive event. "A lot of people come to town, their family comes into town from out of town and they enjoy the whole weekend. So we're very happy with the turnout we have and the response from the community. The community accepts the parade very well."
The parade begins at 1:30 pm on Saturday. It will start at the corner of Fayette and Court streets. Open container laws will be strictly enforced.
