Recap: Long Beach State vs. UC Riverside

Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Casper Ware scored 17 points to lead the Long Beach State 49ers as they topped the UC Riverside Highlanders, 64-40, in a Big West Conference bout at The Walter Pyramid.

Larry Anderson and Eugene Phelps each chipped in 11 points as the 49ers (21-7, 14-0 Big West) clinched their second-straight outright Big West regular season crown. T.J. Robinson made a big contribution in the victory, as he recorded a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Phil Martin led UCR (13-16, 6-9) with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Long Beach State held a comfortable 41-18 advantage at halftime after it knocked down 48.5 percent of its field goals and forced UCR into 13 turnovers in the opening period. The Highlanders shot 32 percent from the floor in the first half.

Although the 49ers cooled off after the break and made just 37 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, they were able to push their 27 points with less than a minute to go before the final buzzer.

Long Beach State converted 10-of-15 from the charity stripe in the contest, while UCR went just 3-of-7 from the free throw line.
