Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. Pacific
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Orlando Johnson scored a game-high 15 points as UC Santa Barbara posted a 72-52 win over Pacific in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Honda Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the third-seeded Gauchos (19-9) were Kyle Boswell and James Nunnally with 12 and 11 points, respectively. With the victory UCSB heads to the semifinals on Friday to play fourth-seeded Cal Poly.
The sixth-seeded Tigers (11-19) were paced by Lorenzo McCloud who tallied 14 points, shooting 4-of-5 behind the three-point line.
Pacific ran out to a five-point lead less than 90 seconds into the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 39.3 percent from the floor and 1-of-6 at the free-throw line in the period. Had the Tigers not made good on 6-of-12 behind the three-point line they would have trailed by more than just 14 points at the break, 43-29.
In the second half UCSB left the door open with just 37.0 percent accuracy from the field and 5-of-11 at the charity stripe, but Pacific failed to take advantage as it shot only 38.5 percent from the floor, en route to the 20- point loss.
The Gauchos finished the afternoon shooting 10-of-21 from three-point range and turned the ball over just six times.
