Recap: UNC Greensboro vs. Rutgers
Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Eli Carter scored 25 points to pace the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as they picked up an 87-80 win over the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a non-conference bout at Greensboro Coliseum.
Myles Mack also had a big-time performance for Rutgers (4-1) as he netted 24 points and fished out five assists. Mack and Carter recorded three steals each and they combined to go 9-of-9 at the charity stripe.
Derrell Armstrong led UNCG (1-4) with 25 points in 29 minutes off the bench. Trevis Simpson contributed 16 points and nine rebounds while Kelvin McNeil and Koren Van Dussen scored 10 each. McNeil recorded a double-double as he also pulled down a game-high 11 boards.
The Spartans overcame an early 8-0 deficit to build a lead that grew to as many as 10 in the first half. UNCG went into halftime with a 43-40 lead after it converted 6-of-15 attempts from beyond the arc. The Scarlet Knights trailed at the intermission despite shooting 56.7 percent from the field in the opening half.
UNCG saw its lead evaporate in the second half as it converted only 38.7 percent of its field goal attempts, including just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc. Rutgers overcame the deficit by sinking 18-of-22 attempts at the charity stripe and also by scoring 15 points off of turnovers in the final 20 minutes of action.
The Spartans lost despite their 23 second chance points. Rutgers managed to generate only seven second chance points.Game Notes
