Penn State University has extended the contract of men's basketball coach Ed DeChellis three years, the school announced Thursday.

The extension will keep DeChellis with the school through the 2013-14 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Penn State is coming off a 2008-09 season in which it set a school record for victories, going 27-11, and won the NIT Championship, the program's first-ever national postseason tournament title. The Nittany Lions also recorded their first-ever victory at Michigan State, the NCAA Tournament runner-up.

"We are very excited about the significant progress our men's basketball program has made under Coach DeChellis and are thrilled that he will continue to lead the program into the future," athletics director Tim Curley said.

DeChellis was named Penn State's head coach in April 2003, and in his six seasons the Lions have gone 84-103.
